Wow, I can't believe summer is almost over. It has been a nonstop summer for the library (and the librarian)! June brought the beginning of my last group of online classes and my first experience teaching summer school. Summer school library was a lot of fun. I enjoyed meeting the students from Thornton and Knox and sharing several lessons and of course book checkouts with them! July was mostly grad school work, lots of reading, writing, assessing, and learning for me. Plus I spent a few wonderful days team-building at Capturing Kids Hearts. A few days working in the Anderson library moving book shelves and labeling materials rounded out July. August has started with hot days, more coursework, and a fabulous day of learning at ESC Region XI. A group of amazing AISD librarians joined me at #Prime16 Digital Learning Conference. We learned a lot and shared even more. Quick shout out to the amazing Shelly Lansford for her help in capturing the enjoyment teachers and librarians had while exploring Bee-Bots. Check out some awesome pictures from our sessions! Next week brings registration and the end to my classes. Enjoy the last remaining weeks (days) and I can't wait for our fabulous new school year! Thanks @MMooreLibrary1 (Carrie Boden) for the photo, missing @LibraryNutt (Andrea Msando)
Thanks to Library Services Coordinator, Julie Moore and Title I Federal funds our library space got a makeover! New flexible furniture moves around easily (even for picture day) and offers plenty of opportunity for students and staff to enjoy the library space. Come sit and read (or make or study or discuss or....whatever) for awhile! #aisdlibsrv
We had a phenomenal Book Fair this past week! Sales topped $5,000 with tons of books shared with our gator readers! Thanks to the many parents, teachers, and especially my mom and sister who supported our Spring Book Fair.
Also, thanks again to help from my mom and Mrs. DeVarennes, our boxes of new books are ready for students to browse and checkout after Spring Break. Excited to share so many new titles! See you soon in the library! Saturday, March 5th two teams of amazing 4th and 5th graders competed after weeks of reading and preparing during lunch and after school. Congrats to both teams who worked so hard to earn Honorable Mention (4th grade) and Red Ribbons (5th grade).
Over the last few weeks we have read one of our new books to prepare for our next library Makerspace Challenge. The book, titled Wherever You Go by Pat Zietlow Miller, follows a bike-riding rabbit and several other animals as they travel the roads in the community in which they live. The fun rhymes and beautiful illustrations make for a great introduction to our ongoing paper bag city project. Come check us out in the @BethAndersonES library.
Today was the 100th day of school! To celebrate, Zero the Hero flew into several Anderson classrooms. He even visited the library! Several teachers and students showed how much smarter they have become over the last 100 days as well as dressed the part. Seen below are Zero the Hero and several 1st grade participants. Thanks for joining me in the library today!
